ABOUT ME
My name is Jake Hoyt and when I first started traveling I knew it would be something that I would love to do for the rest of my life. So far I have gone to Ecuador and Costa Rica for service trips, and even though it's hard work I learned to respect it, and gained a new outlook on life. Helping people has always been something that is very important to me, because if I can make someones day better, then it makes me feel as if I am making a difference in the world, even if it is in a small way. Joining Global Studies has been a very good way to accomplish that goal, and my opportunities have skyrocketed as I have progressed through the program. My senior project will be about Japanese culture and mythology, and one of my goals is to Japan and explore and learn about its culture and traditions while I am there. I also hope to begin learning Japanese soon for fun as it is a large part of my interest. I love to do Obstacle Course Races (OCR), and have participated in 7 of them so far. They are usually 5K races with 15 obstacles, and have been something that I've loved doing the past couple years of my life. More recently however I have also been learning to fly planes, and have taken a great interest in aircraft and aeronautical aviation. For our senior seminar class we have to do another year long project, and that is what I chose to do mine on.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest."
